How to Convert an Addon Domain to Separate Account Webuzo

Addon Domain to Separate Account Webuzo – Webuzo is a versatile control panel for managing a web hosting environment. Sometimes, you may need to migrate an addon domain to a standalone user account for better isolation, management, or security. This guide will walk you through the process of converting an addon domain into a separate user account in Webuzo.

Why Convert an Addon Domain to a Separate User?

Addon domains share resources with the primary account. Converting an addon domain to a standalone user account provides the following benefits:

  • Improved Security: Each user account has isolated permissions.
  • Resource Allocation: Separate accounts allow better control over resource usage.
  • Independent Control: Each user gets their own control panel and access settings.

Prerequisites

  1. Admin Access: Ensure you have admin privileges in Webuzo.
  2. Backup: While the conversion process is safe, it’s a good practice to back up the addon domain’s files, databases, and email accounts.

Backup the Addon Domain

Before starting the conversion process, back up all data associated with the addon domain to avoid any data loss.

1. Backup Files:

  • Log in to your Webuzo panel.
  • Navigate to File Manager or connect via FTP.
  • Download the addon domain’s files located in the directory assigned to it.

2. Backup Databases:

  • Go to Database Management > phpMyAdmin.
  • Select the database(s) used by the addon domain and export them as SQL files.

3. Backup Emails:

  • If the addon domain has email accounts, export emails using your email client or Webuzo’s email backup tools.

Important Things to Remember

  • We recommend you to have enough space in the server before converting an addon domain to user.
  • We strongly recommend you to take a backup of the user owning the addon domain.
  • The addon domain’s data remains in the source user. So, you must remove the data from the source user. This reduces your user’s data usage.
  • This feature is only visible for the root user and not the resellers.
  • If the addon domain has subdomains or alias, conversion will be aborted. So make sure you delete them before the conversion.
  • After conversion, the addon domain becomes the primary domain of the new user and it’s document root is the public_html directory in the new user’s home directory.
  • Webuzo generates a random password for the newly created user. You can edit user and change password of that user.
